Premier League preview: Chelsea and Tottenham to lock horns for a ride

The Premier League is entering Matchday 26 of 38, with Chelsea and Tottenham scheduled to lock horns for a rollercoaster ride. Odds are heavily favoring Chelsea despite their 5-0 loss to Arsenal. They were able to make a comeback in the next game against Aston Villa, where they landed a double-goal draw. Tottenham, on the other hand, has been left stranded with two consecutive losses.

In other words, Tottenham may feel like they have an appetite for a win, but Chelsea likely makes up for the momentum it has gained in the previous match. This does not indicate Tottenham’s lack of potential for victory. The side has the advantage of being in the 5th position on the table. Chelsea is lagging in the 9th position with 48 points, a 12 point deficit.

The upcoming event between Chelsea and Tottenham has 55% odds for Chelsea, 40% for opponents, and the remainder for a draw. Some of the best football betting sites may be re-aligning their odds after Tottenham delivered a set of unfortunate events in the last meeting with Chelsea.  Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were the two crucial players sent off, while James Maddison and Micky van de Van sustained injuries.

Additionally, a VAR overrule cost them two goals.

While VAR-related decisions are understandable, losing four players to one thing or another deserves some rethinking. The number of goals could average 2.5, and the picture is likely to become clearer in the first half.

During the first half, Aston Villa had the game in their corner; however, Chelsea bounced back later, scoring two goals in less than 20 minutes. Aston Villa were rather lucky to have a second one, considering the opener in the 4th minute was an OG by Marc Cucurella. Noni and Conor held the flags for Pochettino’s men.

Tottenham first lost to Newcastle by 4-0 and then lost to Arsenal by 3-2. The loss versus Newcastle was rather brutal, as they had a possession rate of 73%. This implies that they had enough opportunities to score at least one goal.

Another perspective is that Newcastle simply came out too strong with their attack, making the best of what they could get in 27% of possession. This is based on the number of more shots than what Tottenham (5/18) had on target. Tottenham missed several chances, with 2/11 on target.

The match between Chelsea and Tottenham has the potential to be a thrilling experience, defying the established odds on any platform. Tottenham is in no mood to let go of their position on the table. Chelsea is not in the mood to lose momentum. At Stamford Bridge, the Premier League has a new day in the tournament.
