CAF Women’s Olympic qualifiers are back on track

CAF Women’s Olympic qualifiers are now back on track, with the event scheduled to start on October 25, 2023, and end on October 31, 2023. The first event will be played between Ethiopia and Nigeria. The actual event will happen in Paris from July 25, 2024, to August 10, 2024. The football event is taking shape after it was suspended. The second round started with the cancellation of two events on October 23, 2023; however, it has now resumed.

A total of 12 participants will be featured on the final list. Five participants have been confirmed: Canada, Brazil, the USA, Colombia, and France. Four teams are in the race to join them: Nigeria, Morocco, Zambia, and South Africa.

Moving forward, teams will play the third round from February 19, 2024, to February 28, 2024. Then, the fourth and final round will occur during the same period. Only two winners from the fourth round will make it to the Olympic Games.

Leg 1 of 2 of the Second Round will have other games:

  • DR Congo vs. South Africa on October 25, 2023
  • Tanzania vs. Botswana on October 26, 2023
  • Uganda vs. Cameroon on October 26, 2023
  • Namibia vs. Morocco on October 26, 2023
  • Benin vs. Ghana on October 27, 2023

Ghana won its last round while competing against Guinea. The final tally was 4-0 in their favor. A competition between Benin and Guinea-Bissau followed this. It was indeed a closer event, with a goal difference of 1. It was Benin that emerged victorious by 3-2. The final event was a draw between Mali and Burkina Faso, with each side scoring a double.

Meanwhile, qualifiers for the Asian region are starting on October 26, 2023, and they are scheduled to end on November 1, 2023. The two winners of the final round will make it to the actual event. Qualifiers are happening in China PR, Australia, and Uzbekistan.

There are a total of 3 groups: Group A, Group B, and Group C. Every group will play their events in different countries: Australia, China PR, and Uzbekistan, respectively. Teams have been divided in the following manner:

  • Group A – Chinese Taipei, Australia, IR Iran, and Philippines
  • Group B – Korea Republic, China PR, Korea DPR, and Thailand
  • Group C – India, Japan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam
