Genius Sports and Snapchat partner to power Verizon’s Lenses
Genius Sports has announced a partnership with Snapchat to enable its users to leverage the capabilities of Lenses that are powered by the 5G network of Verizon. The facility is exclusively available to the customers of the telecom operator, paving the way for an experience that can only be enjoyed by select users of Snapchat, also identified as Snapchatters.
The idea is to bring together the power of augmented reality through Snapchat Lenses. It brings an AR commerce platform and live data visualization to the same stage. Moreover, Snapchatters will be able to access 3D interactive maps along with real-time game stats. Online stores will enable them to try merchandise without physically visiting the store.
As a result of the partnership between Genius and Snapchat, Verizon customers will have access to a 5G network and augmented reality technology.
The offering is scheduled to make its debut on September 17, 2023. That is the date when the LA Rams and San Francisco 49ers will lock horns at SoFi Stadium. This makes Verizon the first company to sponsor a feature that integrates the technology of Genius Sports.
Verizon brings the support, and Genius carries the technology. Snapchat brings the element of active network users to the table. According to reports, over 750 million consumers access Snapchat each month. Together, these consumers produce more than 5 billion snaps per day. This is merely an average, so the number of snaps could be greater or less on any given day. Users are frequently more active than usual.
The partnership will currently benefit select users; however, moving forward, it will see more users make the transition to Verizon just to avail of this feature. Alternatively, there is a possibility that other users may simply gain access to it without having to change their operator.
Kris Soumas from Verizon has expressed confidence in the partnership by stating that they will offer a never-heard-before experience to customers. The Director of Platforms and Partnerships has also said that the partnership reflects their commitment to offering amazing experiences with the combination of AR and 5G technologies.
According to the sports news, Anmol Malhotra, the Head of Sports Partnership for Snapchat, has said they are thrilled to partner with Genius Sports, adding that Snapchat is the best place for everyone to showcase their love for their favorite team. Per their statement, almost 250 million Snapchat users engage with AR daily.
Matt Ryter from Genius Sports has said that they are delighted with the partnership and are now looking forward to helping to improve lenses with the official data that they get. Matt has also acknowledged that the Lens technology of Snapchat is leading the revolution across the US by making sure that fans have an immersive experience through AR engagement.
