Match 35, IPL 2023 review Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians

Match 35 of IPL 2023 concluded recently, and it showcased the Gujarat Titans crushing Mumbai Indians.

Batting first, GT reached a score of 207 for 6, which proved to be an unachievable task for MI. After winning the toss, MI made the strategic call and chose to field first. The Narendra Modi Stadium has been witnessing back-to-back chase wins, so MI followed the pattern as well.

The decision also seemed correct during the powerplay since MI restricted GT to a score of 50/1. However, the in-form Shubman Gill managed to ruin MI’s dreams by hitting 56 runs off 34 balls. Gill is currently in contention for the Orange Cap with 284 runs.

However, considering the commendable performance of the batsman, Gill was among the top fantasy picks across the best cricket betting sites. In a match where spinners dominated the play, Gill emerged as the highest run-scorer.

However, Gill did not land a standalone masterpiece. After a lackluster middle-order performance, it was the lower order that pulled off a stunner.

David Miller (46 off 22) and Abhinav Manohar (42 off 21) delivered a strong finish for the team. Even Rahul Tewatia scored a quick 20 off only 5 balls to help GT reach 207 for 6.

In return, the MI started shakily, losing their captain Rohit Sharma in the second over. The team failed to pick up pace as Ishan Kishan got out for 13 off 21 balls. Although Cameron Green scored 33 off 26, the team needed way more to reach a massive target of 208.

Nehal Wadhera stood out from the rest with a quick 40 off 21. But Nehal’s heroics could only help MI register a 55-run loss in Match 35. The match was utterly dominated by leg spinners from both teams.

Piyush Chawla posted a tally of 34/2 in 4 overs. On the other hand, Rashid Khan took 2 for 27, and Noor Ahmad got 3 for 37. Overall, GT outclassed MI on every front. Both teams started weak and finished strong. However, it appeared as if whatever GT did badly, MI did worse.

The win has helped GT reach the second position on the table with 10 points in 7 matches. On the other hand, MI has entered the bottom half of the table with 6 points in 7 matches. The team seems in huge trouble with a lack of synergy and no individual players shining out in the competition.
