IPL 2023: CSK enters top 3 while Faf du Plessis takes Orange Cap
The cricket match between CSK and RCB ended up being a batting riot. Even after setting a massive target of 227, CSK barely managed to contain RCB to 218 for 8.
The win has brought CSK into the top three in the IPL 2023 standings with 6 points in 5 games. On the other hand, despite securing the Orange Cap, Faf du Plessis-led RCB is struggling in the 7th spot. While Bangalore has put on a batting spectacle several times, the team has only won 2 out of its 5 games in the IPL 2023. Also adding insult to injury, CSK tops the table despite losing Ben Stokes to Injury.
As for Match 24, RCB won the toss and decided to chase whatever score CSK put in front of them. The decision seemed correct as Siraj got rid of the in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad for a score of 3. However, this is where CSK picked up the pace, courtesy of Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane.
While Rahane got out for 37, Conway ended up scoring a whopping 83 off 45. The player was later accompanied by Shivam Dube, who also scored a quick half-century to help CSK reach 226 for 6.
Despite being a popular name in international cricket, Conway was not the first choice of many fantasy players in this game. Instead, most fans on betting sites for cricket picked Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Ravindra Jadeja as their first picks.
Coming back to the match, RCB started the innings with two of the most well-known names in cricket, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. With a big target ahead, Kohli started the inning aggressively but got out in the first over itself. After scoring a duck, things got even worse when Mahipal Lomror joined Kohli in the dugout.
However, Faf du Plessis (62 off 33) stood his ground with Glenn Maxwell (76 off 36), with both players scoring half-centuries. As things started to turn around, both players got out, and the RCB’s innings never found stability.
While Dinesh Karthik hit some convincing shots, it looked like a lost cause until the last over. RCB needed 19 runs from the last over, and it looked achievable after the impact sub, Suyash, hit Matheesha for a six on the third ball. However, the bowler remained calm and bowled three decent deliveries to close the game.
