The Patriots were really bottled up by the Jets and their staff unit, but Minnesota is probably not as formidable in that area. What New England is going to intend to do is run the football with as much efficiency as possible, and they have one of the better offensive lines in the NFL to do that with. We particularly like rhamondre Stevenson, who came out of the University of Oklahoma and has big play capability.
The Vikings need to get their act together on the offensive line. When quarterback Kirk Cousins gets sacked seven times, there are some breakdowns, and even though he is known as one of those guys who get the ball out of his hands quickly, he did not have that kind of time last week.
When he does, however, he does have as good a lineup of receivers as New England has faced thus far. Justin Jefferson is widely recognized as one of the top three wide receivers in the NFL, so it might be a true outlier that he caught only three passes for 33 yards last week.
Maybe he’s the guy that will be the target for Bill Belichick, who is notorious for constructing a defensive scheme to take out the opposing squads’ best weapon. But Minnesota has other weapons, and that includes Adam thielen on the outside, TJ hockenson at tight end, and Dalvin cook at the running back spot. Cook is actually better than any of the running backs that New England has, to the Vikings, if they are on their game, can attack you in different ways.
And O’Connell, who we mentioned coached under McVay with the Rams last year, will want to establish his ground game and go with play-action passes from cousins.
Professional players don’t stand for humiliation very long, especially the kind that the Vikings suffered at the hands of Dallas last week. So this team will be on red alert as per the odds on most of the NFL betting sites, and we think we’ll get their best effort. That should be good enough to win this game by at least a field goal.
