Modern Future wins Egyptian Super Cup semi-final

A total of thirty-four penalty kicks decided the Egyptian Super Cup semi-final match between Pyramids and Modern Future. Modern Future is now set to face Al Ahly in the finals on December 28.

The nail-biting semi-final ended with a score of 14–13, with Modern Future taking the edge. After the football match ended 0-0 after extra time, the teams had to settle the game with a penalty shootout.

However, no one in the stadium would have thought it would take the team 34 penalty kicks to settle the game. The football semi-final took place at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

While Modern Future missed two penalty kicks, Pyramids let their nerves get the best of them and missed a fourth. Osama Galal, the Pyramids defender, failed to score on two penalty shots. One of these misses was the decisive kick that ended the excruciating match.

Although this penalty shootout seemed to be going on for hours, it still did not beat the 54-penalty showdown between Washington FC and the Bedlington Terriers. The teams faced each other in 2022 in a local English Cup match.

In a similar fashion, it took 48 penalties to decide a winner between Civics and KK Palace. The teams played against each other in a 2005 Namibian Cup football match.

While Modern Future has entered the finals after a well-fought penalty shootout, Al Ahly qualified for the match with a 1-0 win. The team beat Ceramica Cleopatra 1-0 in the second semi-final.

According to the sports news, although the game did not go to a shootout, it was equally close. The teams remained goalless until the 96th minute when Mohamed Ibrahim scored the game-sealing goal.

Now, Pyramids will face Ceramica Cleopatra on December 28 to decide the 3rd-placed team. Modern Future and Al Ahly will play later that day to decide the winner and the runner-up.
