Swiatek faces Kenin and Djokovic plays a qualifier at the Australian Open

Novak Djokovic was surprised when he lost to Alex de Minaur. However, he also gratefully acknowledged the department where he lacked and the reason for his loss. He committed to making a comeback at the Australian Open after going for treatment for a wrist injury. Novak is now back on the court, ready to pursue his 11th Australian Open title.

His last loss was the first in six years on Australian soil. Swiatek is gearing up for qualifiers, too. She will face Sofia Kenin, the defending champion. Many have called this a trick test for Swiatek, a 22-year-old tennis star.

That said, many contests for the Australian Open have already happened. The tennis tournament began on January 7, 2024, and is scheduled to conclude on January 28, 2024. The men’s category last saw a qualifier played between Blockx and Svajda. The latter emerged victorious, defeating his opponent 6-4, 3-6, and 4-6.

It looks like a close call, but the points won have a broader margin. Blockx bagged 86 points against 99 for Svajda. In terms of games won, Svajda accounted for 16 games, while Blockx was restricted to just 13 games to his name.

More tennis competitions are underway. At the time of drafting this article, a game is being played between Sumit Nagal and Edward Winter. The Indian champion has edged 1 set by 6-3. He is fighting for the second set with a 4-1 lead. So far, Nagal has won 48 points and 10 games against 28 points and 4 games won by Winter.

The Women’s Single category is at a crucial point in the Australian Open. Five tennis games are being played. The one that is closer to the conclusion is between Jang and Radovcic. The former is leading the third game by 2-0 after heavily beating the opponent in the second game by 6-1. That marked her strong comeback following a 1-6 loss to Radovcic.

According to sports news, the Men’s Single category has more games lined up. Goffin and Diallo will lock horns the next day. This will be followed by Dougaz and Prizmic’s appearance in the qualifier. Similarly, the other side of the tournament will host Timofeeva versus Hon and Kudermetova versus Ferro.

Mixed doubles will commence on January 18, 2024. Contestants and other details are yet to be finalized, except for the second round for all players.

Switek is trying not to let the ghosts of the UK Open haunt her. Her loss to Ostapenko in the Round of 16 disappointed her and her fans. That was before Iga Swiatek lost to Veronika Kudermetova in the quarterfinal of the Japan Open. The China Open and WTA Finals were different leagues where Swiatek went on to win the last lap.

Djokovic and Swiatek have the responsibility of shining in the Australian Open after a couple of setbacks that have come their way.
