The SAFF Championship semi-final begins tomorrow

The South Asian Football Federation Championship, otherwise known as SAFF Championship, is nearing its conclusion. The two semi-final matches are scheduled to happen on July 01, 2023, at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru.

A total of four teams have made it to the semi-final – Kuwait, Bangladesh, Lebanon, and India. The first ones to run the grounds would be Kuwait and Bangladesh at 3:00 pm IST. This will be followed by India versus Lebanon at 7:30 pm IST. One winning team from each event will make it to the final on July 04, 2023, at the same venue.

Kuwait enters the semis by topping Group A on the basis of GF and GA. India and Kuwait share the point, that is, 7. Lebanon and Bangladesh were in the first and second spots in Group B, respectively.

One Indian player to look out for is Sunil Chhetri. The 38-year-old footballer is the top scorer in SAFF Championship with 5 goals to his name. He is credited with ruining the lineup of Pakistan in the opener by netting the ball three times.

Lebanon is likely to rely on Hassan Maatouk, for the player is leading the side with 2 goals. One of them was scored against Bangladesh during the Group match.

Kuwait is the only team posing a threat to India’s road to the title. Online football betting sites are pretty much in splits to determine a potential winner. Both teams had landed a draw in the final group match. They are currently being led by Mubarak Al Faneni, who has 2 goals to his name. Interestingly, both those goals were scored on the same day against Pakistan for a 4-0 victory.

Bangladesh has Rakib Hossain and Shekh Morsalin with 2 goals each. They were able to clinch 3-1 victories over Maldives and Bhutan. The only loss they incurred was 2-0 against Lebanon.

Four teams will now lock horns in the Semi-Final of the SAFF Championship on July 01, 2023. Winning teams will make it to the final round for the SAFF title.
