Horse Racing Betting – Get on a roll with Preakness props at BetOnline

There are 36 horses throughout history who have won both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Can Mage add his name to that list? Some BetOnline patrons may not know quite what to make of it as the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico includes only one contestant who also competed in the Derby, and people continue to talk about running the Triple Crown races differently to get better fields.

Mage posted a monstrous Beyer speed figure of 105 at Churchill Downs, but many of the horses there had inflated Beyers, indicating that it was just a very fast track. The challenge, it would appear, is for Mage to stalk the pace and hopefully not be all that far from it until it’s time to move and there is no crowd to deal with. There are ten fewer horses in this race than in the Kentucky Derby, so that shouldn’t be much of a concern.

We’re going to talk about some Preakness props that don’t include Mage in just a minute, But first of all, here is the horse racing betting odds on the Preakness Stakes, as they are posted in the BetOnline racebook:

(1) National Treasure 4-1

(2) Chase the Chaos  50-1

(3) Mage  6-5

(4) Coffeewithchris  20-1

(5) Red Route One  10-1

(6) Perform  15-1

(7) Blazing Sevens  6-1

The props we’re talking about are located within the sportsbook interface at BetOnline, so don’t look for them in the racebook area.

Here’s one that presents a three-horse group and who will have the best finish among them:

Best Finishing Position

Blazing Sevens

+125

Red Route One

+200

Perform

+250

Blazing Sevens has not had a win as a three-year-old, having last won a race in October (the Champagne Stakes). There is no recent form to excite anyone, but his trainer is Chad Brown, and Brown had won twice in the Preakness (Cloud Computing, Early Voting) on occasions when he held his charge out of the Kentucky Derby. That’s the case here.

Red Route One is hoping that somebody sets a furious pace. That will give him the setup to exhibit a closing kick. There aren’t any glittering credentials with the horse; the best race result is a win in the $200,000 Bath House Row Stakes at Oaklawn.

Perform lost to Mage by five and a half lengths in a maiden race at Gulfstream in January. It took Perform until his sixth race to break his maiden, and we don’t know if that presents the right kind of credentials to make some noise here. This is another horse looking to make a big late move.

Red Route One (+200) has the most upside among these three.

Best Finishing Position

Red Route One -250
Coffeewithchris +350
Chase The Chaos +700

This one isn’t so much about Red Route One; it is about the other two in the prop because we’re not sure they even belong. Coffeewithchris finished fifth in the Federico Tesio, which Perform won. And he punched out an 82-speed figure in his last start, which is not likely to have him in contention.

That 82 would represent the career-high Beyer speed figure for Chase the Chaos, who has finished seventh and eighth in his last two races.

The one thing we know about Red Route One is that he’s not going to fade in the stretch…… probably. He’s looking too close and too close big. If he doesn’t contend, it’s likely because he didn’t fire at all.

Best of the Rest?

Blazing Sevens

+135

Red Route One

+250

Perform

+330

Coffeewithchris

+1000

Chase The Chaos

+1400

This Preakness Stakes prop involves all the horses in the field aside from Mage and National Treasure. Does Blazing Sevens deserve to be the favorite in this prop?

He’s been winless in 2023 and did not even appear in the Fountain of Youth Stakes, finishing eighth. He hit the board in the Blue Grass, getting the “show” money, but that was not a performance that would have him in contention here. Red Route One has a chance to pass other horses in the stretch, even if that isn’t quite good enough to challenge a rampaging Mage.

The race is on! Get over to BetOnline today and bet the Preakness! They have win-place-show, exacta, and trifecta wagers in the racebook and all kinds of interesting props in the sportsbook interface. Remember that you can complete to pick who’s first and last and make yourself some money. There’s $5000 up for grabs!
